Welcome
to the Hong Kong Riding Club's
Website!
The Club
is based at the Jockey Club's Pokfulam Public
Riding School (PPRS) and membership is open to all regular riders there.
The Club has been operating for nearly 30 years. Through Membership
of the Club you can take part in:
- fun and challenging riding competitions to
improve your skills;
- instructional lectures and meetings to
improve your equine knowledge and awareness;
- social events so you can enjoy the company of
your fellow riders; and
- volunteering to gain hands on experience of running riding events.
We organise regular Competitions including show jumping, dressage,
gymkhanas and more from October to May each year. Don't worry if
you've never competed before, our events are suitable for all levels of
ability and we work closely with your instructor to ensure you enter the
right level of competition on a pony/horse suitable for you. Come and
watch our next event!
We also
welcome family members to enjoy watching our events and to help out.
We always need assistance in setting up courses, timekeeping, etc. so come
along!
History
For the first few years of
the Club’s existence in the early 1980s, we were the only facility in
HK for riders to take the British Horse Society Grade tests. Once the Pony
Club was up and running, they and the Jockey Club took over this
role. Now the Riding Club works along side the HK Pony Club and many
of our riders belong to both, continuing their lessons and Riding Club
activities in Pokfulam and also attending the
rallies and camps run by the Pony Club. Over the years between us we
have had 5 Hong
Kong riders
competing internationally.
During the past five
years, we have introduced show jumping and dressage clinics, vet talks
and tack and turn out demonstrations into our regular programme of events. In addition to the events and
clinics, the Club has now become a training ground for riders who wish
to compete in a larger forum. Since the opening of Tuen Mun as a much larger
centre for public riding, a lot of our members also compete there. The Riding Club is open to both adults
and children – if you can’t beat them join them
!
